My Dallas Trail Story:

Using DART so Bambi and I can ride the trails!

The best thing about riding my bike is that my dog, Bambi, gets to ride along. I taught her to ride in the basket and she enjoys every stop we make along the trail. Her love of riding keeps me motivated too!

Hello, my name is Manny and this is My Dallas Trail Story.

I started riding bikes again about 5 or 6 years ago. I have cerebral palsy and I thought I would not find a bike to ride. One day I stopped by my local bike shop (John’s Trikes and Bikes) and spoke with a gentleman who specifically sells recumbent bikes. Mine has two wheels in the front and one in the back, and it is lower to the ground. It is a game changer! It does not require constant balance so it is easier to learn and allows me to rest at any time. I converted it to an ebike to go longer distances.

After a couple of years of riding solo, I joined a bike group called @hangoverriders. We do weekly night rides around downtown. These rides helped me figure out how the trail system connects in Dallas. One of my favorite things to do is to find out which trails take me to breweries.

Public transportation and the trail system allows me to explore the city. When I want to get to a trail, I use the @dartdaily service. For short rides, I stop at the 8th and Corinth station and take The Santa Fe Trestle Trail. When the weather is beautiful, I go all the way to White Rock station and ride around the lake.

For scenery, I take the DART rail to the 8th and Corinth station where Bambi and I can hop on the Trinity Skyline Trail and ride to Trinity Groves where I might enjoy a margarita on @betoandson patio. I like riding on the Skyline Trail because of the grass that surrounds it. Going under the Ron Kirk Pedestrian bridge and making the turns feels amazing and it gives you a good view of the city!

I love the Dallas trail system and look forward to exploring more of my city with Bambi!
